Everything about this portrait is a duality. Two pairs of heels, two hoodies, two black bags, and two cigarettes. The two women perched on the stairs in Union Square Park mirror each other in inexact terms. One wears red- the other nude, one hood up- one down. In their own world, they are completely unaware of the people moving around them or even the photographer in front of them. On the stairs behind them to their right sit a second pair of women, taking their break from the world to converse with each other.
