When looking at the portrait of an unnamed woman leaning out of her Lower East Side apartment I was drawn back to Bartolomé Esteban Murillo's Two Women at a Window. The three woman above all casually lean out of their home to address and watch those passing by below. The viewer is not given insight into what they see, but rather a snapshot in time of their reaction to what happens below.
